Who We Are

Town Committee

How To Join

Town Committee

The current composition of the Town of Canandaigua Democratic Committee is as follows:

Jodi Kaufman, Chair, representing District 1

I was recruited onto the committee just as the Trump era began. I soon realized that the Republicans own our Town politics. Besides out numbering Democrats by 2 to 1, they are also well funded and led by a State Senator who hand picks and funds Republican candidates. We have no representation on the Town Board so we need to constantly remind the conservative board that they need to serve all Town residents.

In addition to being the chair of the Town committee, I am the President of the Board of ChamberFest Canandiagua and the chair of the Canandaigua Rotary Environmental Sustainability committee. My husband, Rick, and I moved to Canandaigua in 2005 after I retired from a 30 year career in sales and marketing with AT&T. We enjoy tending to our lake-friendly lawn and garden and hiking in the beautiful Bristol foothills.

Lois Nevinger Golbeck, Committee Member, representing District 1

I have been a Democrat for over 30 years and joined the town Democratic Committee when we moved to Canandaigua in 2013 from Dallas, Texas. I joined the committee to interact with like minded people, as I feel strongly about protecting our environment, good affordable healthcare for all, women’s rights and effective gun control. The fellowship with other local Democrats has helped me tolerate the ever growing divisiveness in our country and help find ways to promote bipartisanship.

I graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, I am a Texas licensed CPA, and I am a retired executive recruiter who co-owned a search firm in Dallas. I am currently a member of the town history team and a former member of the town special events committee. I've been a member of Rochester Global Connections since 2013, including a former board member.

Marie Schudde, Treasurer reprersenting District 3

My husband Tom, my two daughters, and I moved from Columbus, Ohio to Farmington in the 1980’s. I have lived in the

I volunteer at the Ontario County Historical Society.  My hobbies are gardening and genealogy.  I am an environmentalist and aproud to be a Democrat! I joined the committee to support women's rights.  I consider them to be at risk even in New York!

Susan has lived most of her life in Ontario County since 1970.  Born in Yates County but starting out married life in Flint then moving to Phelps, Shortsville and Canandaigua in 2012.  Susan attended FLCC and SUNY Oswego.  Susan worked in education for Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES for almost 30 years in the computer software training/support as well as other educational areas of BOCES retiring in 2006. Daughter Heather works for both the The Partnership Center for Ontario County as well as FLCC.  Granddaughters attend Canandaigua. To say that we are County ambassadors would be an understatement.  To quote Louis D. Brandeis “The most important political office is that of the private citizen."

Linda Dworaczyk, Vice Chair, representing District 4

Linda and her husband Chuck Wochele moved to Canandaigua in 2009.  She retired from over 30 years of corporate life, working for Corning, Kodak and Arthur Andersen & Co to focus on service work and volunteering.  Linda currently serves on the Town of Canandaigua Town Board, and Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association Board.  She is a volunteer mediator with the Canandaigua Center for Dispute Settlement, served for 8 years as Treasurer for the Landings HOA, and volunteers with the Plein Air Festival.  Her business experience has provided the tools to use facts and data to make good decisions.  Linda believes now more than ever we need ethical people at all levels of government.

Laurel Baker, Committee Member representing District 5

My name is Laurel Baker. I have lived in the town of Canandaigua for the past six years and in Ontario County for the past 20 years. I moved to Canandaigua after my retirement from a career in social work for New York State agencies. I have a Masters in Social Work and Community Services Administration and a MBA. Canandaigua offered more volunteer opportunities then the rural area I was formerly living in. I have enjoyed working in theatre, concert halls and community soup kitchens. I have been an election inspector for the Democratic Party for the past six years. I have always been interested in national and state government and I’m happy to be working at the local Town level. I hope to raise community awareness for the need to develop a more diverse town government workforce. I hope to make our beautiful Canandaigua community even better.

Michael Parsons, Committee Member, representing District 6

I was born, raised and received my education in the Cleveland, Ohio metropolitan area.  I graduated from Bowling Green State University where I met Nancy who, a few years after our graduation, became my wife.  Following our college years my career began in sales within the wholesale building materials industry.  In 1985, Nancy and I, along with our three daughters, moved to Canandaigua to satisfy a career promotion and transfer.  In 2019, after forty-six years as a “Lumber Nerd”, I retired.

Over the years I have enjoyed wood working, travel, classic cars and of course, along with Nancy, raising our family and now enjoying our four grandchildren.  During my career I sat on a variety of industry related organizational boards.  Over the years I have, and continue to serve, in various committee capacities within our church.

Nancy Parsons, Committee Member, representing District 6

Nancy, husband Mike and their three daughters moved from Ohio to Canandaigua in 1985. They have resided in the Town of Canandaigua since that time, valuing family, our community and the surrounding farmland and lake.  Nancy is a graduate of Bowling Green State University (Ohio). She is retired from the Ohio County Historical Society and the First Congregational Church having done education programming and historical events and projects at both organizations. She is an active volunteer in various capacities at the FIrst Congregational Church and a member of P.E.O. which provides funds supporting women's education goals. Hobbies include: gardening, reading, traveling when we are able, and enjoying our four grandchildren.

Keith Turner, Committee Member representing District 7

Keith was born and raised in Texas but came to the Finger Lakes area after a four-year stint in the Navy and a year at the University of Texas at El Paso. He moved to Phelps in 1964, then lived in Bloomfield, and moved to Canandaigua in 2004. Keith worked as a pipeline welder for utilities in the area for a dozen years before going back to school at CCFL, Nazareth College, and SUNY Geneseo, earning a B.S. in Math and a Masters in Math Education. He taught at Monroe #1 BOCES and retired from Midlakes High School in 2010. Keith lives on West Lake Road with his wife Sue, who is retired from teaching math at Red Jacket High School. He has volunteered with Ontario Pathways since retiring and currently is on their Board of Directors. He organizes the trail mowers, and has recently started a new work crew, which is in the process of removing roots from the 23 miles of trail. Keith is also a member of the Town of Canandaigua Scenic Views Committee.

David Harris PhD, Committee Member representing district
I am a retired medical school professor and research scientist in the fields of neurobiology, microbiology and medical/dental lasers. Originally from Evanston, Illinois where I obtained an MS and PhD in psychology from Northwestern University and taught there for a while in Communicative Disorders. Over the years I have had many adventures in Chicago, Connecticut, New Orleans (Katrina), Seattle and Paradise, California. My wife, Pam, Koko the Dog and I drove through flames to save our lives from a California wildfire. We have family here in Canandaigua and it appeared to be “safe” from the ravages of climate change (for now). I did see the floods coming, so we bought a house on a hill. To avoid the dead end of do nothing I joined the Democratic Committee to do what I can to mitigate the next disaster and to oppose those who would make things worse for their short-term personal gain.
