Registering To Vote

Register by August 21, 2009 to vote in a primary election and by October 9, 2009 to vote in the general election.

Register to vote (pdf 166KB) Fill in this form on your computer, print on both sides of a single sheet, fold, and mail.

    To register to vote, you must:
    • Be a U.S. Citizen
    • Be 18 years old by the end of this year (and before you vote)
    • Not be in jail or on parole for a felony conviction
    • Not claim the right to vote elsewhere

 

Absentee Ballot

Absentee ballot application (pdf 60KB) If you will be unable to vote in person at your polling place on election day, you may request an Absentee Ballot. See the information below on the Primary Election or the General Election for absentee ballot application deadlines.

Return your absentee ballot application to the Ontario County Board of Elections, 20 Ontario street, Canandaigua NY 14424.

 

Primary Election

If more than one candidate succesfully petitions to be on a party line of the ballot for an elected office, then a primary election in the Town of Canandaigua will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2009. Polling places will be open from Noon to 9:00 PM.

To vote in the primary you must be registered to vote by August 21, 2009.

To vote in the primary by absentee ballot you must postmark your application for an absentee ballot no later than September 8, 2009, or you may request a ballot in person no later than September 14, 2009.

Your completed absentee ballot must be postmarked no later than September 14, 2009 or dropped off in person no later than September 15, 2009.

 

General Election

The next general election in the Town of Canandaigua will be held Tuesday, November 3, 2009. Polling places will be open from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

To vote in the general election you must be registered by October 9, 2009.

To vote in the general election by absentee ballot you must postmark your application for an absentee ballot no later than October 27, 2009 or you may request a ballot in person no later than November 2, 2009.

Your completed absentee ballot must be postmarked no later than November 2, 2009 or dropped off in person no later than November 3, 2009.
