Here are the highlights from the July 15, 2008, Town of Canandaigua Board meeting.
There were no public hearings.
Privilege of the Floor: The Chairperson of the Planning Board requested that the Town Board consider adding two alternates to the Planning Board in case any members had to recuse themselves from a proceeding because of a conflict.
The Board approved a temporary use permit to allow a portable hot dog stand on Rt. 364 by County Rd. 18.
There was a discussion based on a memo from the code enforcement officer on how to handle mowing properties found in violation of the NYS Property Maintenance Code. The Board will direct the code enforcement officer to get 3 quotes from mowing contractors so they will be able to pass the charges on to the owner's tax bill.
The next meeting of the Comprehensive Plan Subcommittee will be on July 29, 2008, at 6:00 PM, at Town Hall. They are in the process of putting together a recommendation to the Board for updating our current Comprehensive Plan.
A Town resident expressed disappointment that the Board has not taken action on how to handle the pedestrian and bicycle traffic on Middle Cheshire Rd. A discussion followed, with the Board referring the issue to Jim Hecker and the Trails Committee. That committee will next meet on August 11, 2008, at 6:30 PM, at the West Lake School House.
A Town resident brought up a discussion involving the upcoming permissive referendum vote to purchase the development rights to the Wyffels farm land on Middle Cheshire Road. The supervisor promised a full discussion at the next Board meeting on August 5th. The referendum vote will be on August 20, 2008, at the Town Hall from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. All registered voters in the Town are eligible to vote. If you go to this Web site's Useful Links page and click on "Town of Canandaigua Comprehensive Plan"—under the heading "Town of Canandaigua Government"—you will find references to the use and description of PDRs as one of the options the Town could use to preserve open spaces.
The Town Planner reported that the Planning Board will be holding a public hearing on Monday, July 21, 2008, at 6:30 PM, at the Town Hall on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS), the preliminary subdivision, and the special use permit for the RSM application for their development proposal located on County Rd. 16. The DEIS (new window) can be read on the Town's Web site. This will be your opportunity to comment and have the applicant address your concerns.
The Town Attorney reported that she is still doing fact-finding on the Outhouse Park grant issue. The Town is working with the State to clear up discrepancies in park design and size in order to receive the State grant.
