Board In Action - June 17, 2008

Here are the highlights from the June 17, 2008, Town of Canandaigua Board meeting.

There was a public hearing on the appropriation of $200,000 from the Open Space Capital Reserve Fund to purchase the development rights to farm acreage on Middle Cheshire Rd. No one from the public commented and the Board voted unanimously to appropriate the money. There will be a referendum vote held on August 20, 2008, at the Town Hall. The polls will be open from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

There were two other public hearings. The first cleaned up an oversight by creating a local law to establish for maximum lot coverage for the single family lots within the Old Brookside Planned Unit Development. The Board approved it. The other was to adopt several local law changes to resolve conflicts and add definitions to existing laws. The discussion led to sending the definition portion back to the Codes Committee to reword on advice from the Town Attorney.

The Town Engineer and Highway Supervisor led a discussion about moving forward with a proposed water district on County Road 30 and the costs to the residents of this new district. A majority of the affected residents had expressed an interest in creating this new district. It is now up to a majority of those residents to petition the Town to continue to pursue the project.

The Fire Committee reported that the City of Canandaigua and the Town are still in discussions concerning our joint fire protection agreements. The issues revolve around the need to increase the number of firefighters available to provide adequate coverage and the most cost effective way to do that.

The Town Planner reported that the Planning Board voted to accept the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the RSM development on West Lake Rd. with conditions. He stated that the applicant was required to respond by June 17, 2008, with answers to all of the concerns expressed by the Planning Board in the acceptance resolution and they did not meet the deadline.

The Highway Department reported that the Foster Rd. road improvements will begin next week.

The Board approved a resolution to donate $1000 to the City of Canandaigua for the July 4th Celebration. The Board voted down a resolution to appoint a person to the vacancy on the Planning Board without the Board following their procedure of a full Board interview of the candidates.
