Board In Action - January 6, 2009

Here are the highlights from the January 6, 2009, Town of Canandaigua Board meeting.

This was the Town Board organizational meeting for 2009. The Town Board uses the first meeting of the year to appoint committees and consultants, set rules of procedure, approve salaries, etc. There was no regular business conducted.

Highlights of the meeting:

  • Elected officials' salaries:
     
    • Supervisor: $39,300, plus $4,350 for acting as Budget Officer
       
    • Town Board members (4): $4,729 each
       
    • Town Clerk: $49,233
       
    • Town Justices (2): $21,069 each
       
    • Highway Superintendent: $58,885
       
  • The rules of procedure vote were tabled to allow members to review two different versions.
     
  • The Board voted to keep the three-attorney set-up that was used in 2008. Carol Maue, Esq., was appointed as Town Attorney and Thomas Reh, Esq., as Zoning Board Attorney for 2009. The Planning Board will be interviewing attorneys later this month.
     
  • The Board called for a special meeting/workshop for January 13, 2009, at 5:00 PM to discuss both the proposed contract with The Center for Governmental Research to conduct a needs assessment for our Planning Department and a contract with our current part-time planner.
