Board In Action - January 20, 2009

Here are the highlights from the January 20, 2009, Town of Canandaigua Board meeting.

The Board started with an executive session dealing with personnel and litigation issues.

Privilege of the Floor: The Board was given a petition of over 200 signatures requesting that non-motorized canoes and kayaks be allowed to launch at Onanda Park during the summer months. The Board agreed to look at the covenant with the State who shares ownership with the Town and insurance issues before turning the issue over to the Parks and Recreation Committee for their recommendation.

The Board acted on several tabled resolutions from the organizational meeting. It adopted the existing Rules of Procedure and appointed Pam Helming to the vacant seat on the Planning Board.

Planning Department: The Town Planner reported that the Town is in the process of gathering the needed data to resubmit for the Purdy Road sewer district. The purchase of development rights (PDR) applications within the Town are waiting for the State budget to be finalized. The expected cuts in funding may affect the outcomes.

Resolutions: The Board approved the purchase of a new dump truck with plow. The positions and rates for the Parks and Recreation summer program were set. A motion to request MRB Group (the Town's engineering consultant) to prepare an application for bridge replacement on Buffalo Street was passed. The Board tabled a motion to place a street light at the corner of Wyffels Road and Acorn Hill Drive until the Board can gather input from neighbors.

Bill Payments: The Board approved the bills with the exception of a disputed attorney fee.

Other Business: The Board passed a resolution to hire The Center for Governmental Research at a cost of $22,000 to conduct a needs assessment for our Planning Department. The study will take approximately three months to complete. A majority of the members felt this was an important step towards determining which changes, if any, are needed in our planning process.
